Although our industry has used decorative chimney shrouds for decades it is only recently that we have come to understand some of the science that goes behind the development and implementation of a proper UL tested/approved decorative chimney shroud that looks great. Most of our competitors would have you believe that they are using a correct chimney shroud for use on a particular product that they happen to distribute and install. The truth is that we have not seen any evidence of our competition using the correct tops as outlined by manufacturers like Lennox, Superior, Martin, Monessen, FMI and others. Most distributors have simply supplied customers with a top that looks like the drawing or another top someone has seen with a complete disregard for the branded manufacturers requirements leading to unsafe conditions that could cause problems for the user, builder/developer, installing distributor, manufacturer and the industry at large. Having studied this at some length we have come to the conclusion that the HHT family brands of fireplaces are the most versatile when it comes to the types of designs one can use and the ease of installation and manufacturing. The Heat N Glo and Heatilator brands allow the use of a minimum standard that can be followed and still allow for a high degree of creativity and style. You will find that most of the other brands listed will only allow you to use their own tops sold and designed by the factory. We would be surprised to see if anyone is actually using these tops as they lack any real style. We are quite certain that the engineers have achieved a UL listing in safety but have come up short in the choices available that a homeowner would actually want on a finished product. The HHT system allows a better looking UL compliant top that satisfies everyone. Now we are not going to kid you, in order to get some styles to be UL compliant you may need to plan well in advance when it comes down to chimney top size (big is good, not too big), location of pipes, style desired and many other factors. That is what we are here for, we give you that forward thinking if you choose to listen to what we have to offer all the while giving us what is most important to you that you want us to achieve. The key to a truly successful project is to start with a Heat N Glo or Heatilator product that allows us to arrive at the finished product you are shooting for. Upon submittal of your drawing, plan, sketch or a selection of one of our many top styles we can produce a UL compliant and manufacturer approved decorative chimney shroud for your HHT product. There are limitations but we have many ways to address most of them.
